Being the Example
I have a friend named Dan. He is a small business Owner, a man with a Family, and a fierce Faith that rivals no other I have ever known. In this season of trial that has beset our world, our nation, our communities, our families, and ourselves, it is critical to find those Examples that lead the way. My friend Dan is that Example. Let me explain.
When the current health situation set in, Dan’s business was ordered to shut down. This business was not only the livelihood of Dan’s Family but it also provided for the families of his staff. I was standing in Dan’s kitchen in April of this year as we discussed the current situation with trepidation. However, in Dan, I saw a man who was filled with concern for those who looked to him for guidance but also the ever-present Faith.
Instead of waiting to see what would befall his business and family, Dan took action. He used his available resources, took care of those around him, AND Dan never lost Faith. As this season of trial marched on, so did Dan. His business maintained status as a going concern and the staff and their families weathered the storm.
As summer arrived, Dan and his family made some adjustments to the grand plans for a summer wedding they envisioned and made it something different. Dan lead his Family once again with Faith and that wedding turned into a more intimate affair that was just as grand.
We are now on the backside of August and Dan’s business is running closer to normal. His daughter is happily married, and Dan is busy Leading his church small group flock with his fierce example of Faith.
I look around and so many outlets want to tell me the world is in shambles. The world is hopelessly Fallen. The world is irreconcilably broken. There is no question we face many challenges, but I do not believe it. I believe there are more people out there like Dan who will lead us with a fierce Faith. Or to put it another way: Being the Example.
